Tri-State Sunday

Sunday, January 31 is Tri-State Sunday. This is aspecial day for the churchesand the ministerial membersof the FFBC to make ameaningful connection with thecamp as we begin a new yearof ministry. It our desire tosee every church in the FFBC participate.  It is our prayer thatmany blessings will result from Tri-State Sunday.

2011 FFBC Annual Session

Pray for the programcommittee as they begin work on the plans for the FFBC Annual Session which will be held on August 8-11, 2011at Tri-State. It would be a blessing to see a session packed with delegates from every FFBC church and all of our ministerial members.  Mark your calendars and start saving your shekels for this special event.  Dr. Matt Olsen, President of Northland
FFBC Workshop?

What in the world is going on in Fundamentalism? What changes are acceptable? Which ones are not? How do we, as individual believers, churches, and collectively as a fellowship of churches respond to the things that are going on in a way that glorifies the Lord? How do we handle disagreements over the things that are going on in a way that would please God?  It isbecause of these concerns and more that I would like to propose a special FFBC workshop for the Pastors of FFBC churches and all ministerial members where we have a day of briefing, biblical instruction, prayer, and discussion about some of the issues at hand.  I would like forPastor Mark Franklin to lead this workshop. Hardingville Bible Church would host this event. If you would be interested in gathering on a Monday or a Tuesday in March for such an event, would you please email me and let me know?

Happy Anniversary VBC!

Victory Baptist Church of Whitefield, NH will be celebrating their one year anniversary with a special service on January 23, 2011.  Pastor Gary Myers will be the guest speaker. The Boyces would like to praise God for His faithfulness to this ministry and thank Him for the support they receive from theFFBC, various churches and individuals.  Please pray as we will be moving into our own 24/7 rental, seek to charter thisyear, and make application to join the FFBC.

From God’s Word
In Ephesians 5:16, Paul challenged the believers to be “redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” The beginning of 2011 marked the conclusion of one of the most evil decades in human history.  Terrorist attacks, wars, famines, natural disasters claiming hundreds of thousands of lives, slavery, sexual perversion, poverty, corruption, persecution of believers, and nations on the verge of financial collapse all serve as indicators of these evil days.  While all of this evil is taking place, our personal time clocks are ticking which reminds us of the need to redeem the time.  Also, God’s prophetic time clock is ticking.  At any moment, the trumpet will sound, and this also reminds us of the need to redeem the time.  What are we doing to make sure that we are using our time on earth to bring God glory and serve God’s purposes for His people and His Church?

October-December 2010

It was Christmastime.  Two women, their arms filled with large packages and their coat collars raised against the wintry wind, strolled past a downtown department store.  In the big front window was a life-size Nativity, including the Christ Child, Mary and Joseph, shepherds, and cattle.  “Can you beat that!” one of the women was overheard to say to the other.  She continued, “The churches are even now barging in on Christmas!  Hard to imagine why.”

What irony!  Unfortunately, some have drifted so far from the original significance of Christmas that the King of kings should be accused of “barging in” on the observance of His birth in Bethlehem.  One the other hand, may we FFBC pastors and churches, exalt and proclaim the living Christ during these special days.  There is only one other historical event comparable to His advent into the world and that is His death at Calvary, followed by His bodily resurrection.

The Bethel Bible Baptist Church, which broke ground for the initial part of a three-phase improvement and building project on October 3 has experienced steady progress and positive response from their people.  Recently, Pastor Ron Whitehead reported they expected this first phase to be completed before the end of the year.

Our delegation to ACCC annual convention held from October 19-21 in York, PA, reported that it featured good preaching, helpful reports, and Christian fellowship.  Please pray for the work and witness of the council and for Ralph Colas, the Executive Secretary.

Brother John Shipley, one of our faithful pastors, was called into the Lord’s presence on  October 22. We praise God for the Memorial Service held on the 27th at Hardingville Bible Church.  It was a celebration of John’s life and ministry and a testimony to his precious Savior.  May we continue to pray for his wife, Mary, their children, and the entire family.

The fall work retreat was held at Tri-State Bible Camp on November 5-6.  The good number of workers at the retreat was an encouragement to Chris and Keith.  Much work was done and several projects we completed.  Thanks to all who lovingly and diligently participated with their hearts and hands during the retreat.

The Community Bible Church in Barrington started Wonderful Grace Radio, an Internet Radio Station, in October.  They are currently streaming a 6 hour loop 24/7.  The programming contains sacred music, Biblical preaching, and several other features.  You can find it at www.cbcbarrington.comor www.wonderfulgraceradio.com

Go to Listen Live tab on the site and click the icon.  They ask for feedback from you!

Chuck Green and Kevin Kincaid, who annually plan the youth rally, are asking for a host church to volunteer for the 2011 youth rally.  It has been suggested to move the rally from late September to the middle of October to allow more time to prepare for the quiz.  If you can host the rally or have helpful ideas, please contact Chuck or Kevin.

I count it a privilege to serve with you.  Mary and I are looking forward to Christmas and visits from our family.  We pray that you too will enjoy Christ-centered fellowship with your loved ones as you celebrate Christmas and welcome the new year.

Serving Christ together,

Terry R. Smith, National Representative

Flint, MI

by Pastor Bill Raymond

On Saturday, October 16, 2010, a special event was held at the Genesee Independent Baptist Church  in Flint,  MI  that brought people from as far away as Florida, Tennessee, and Pennsylvania.

The event: The Sixtieth Anniversary of Genesee Independent Baptist Church.

The church was started in 1950 after Rev. George Merton had become acquainted with the Bible Protestant Church, a fledging denomination that had started in 1939 after a group walked out of the Methodist Conference that was being held in Atlantic City, NJ to bring three Methodist groups into one new church*.   Brother Merton heard about the new denomination through The Christian Beacon, a magazine that was being edited at that time by Carl MacIntire.

He encouraged several in the Genesee Methodist Church, where he was the pastor, to go and start a new church and become part of the Bible Protestant Church.   This group, which had 13 members, did just that.   (An  interesting  twist  to the story is that Pastor Merton did not stay with the new group, but he went over to Oakley,  MI,  a  community where he had previously pastored, and started a Bible Protestant Church there).   Not only did Pastor Merton have a part in the formation of the two churches, but he had met a young couple there who were recent college graduates and were seeking  the  Lord’s  will for missionary service.    He introduced Dale and Betty Oxley to the Bible Protestant Church and the rest is history.**   The Oxley’s are the only two charter members still living and Betty attended the anniversary along  with her son, Dan.   Since Pastor Merton went to Oakley, Bud Whitney, one of the charter members, pastored  the new church  and kept the group together until they found a new pastor.

The daughter of Bud and Vivian Whitney, Connie Hallowood, was the one who organized the special evening and she did a splendid job.   She has been a part of the church all her life;  in fact, she played the piano in the early days of the church.  The whole evening was a blessing – from the delicious banquet that was served buffet style at around 4:30 p.m. to the service in the auditorium that ended around 9:00 p.m.  There were several special musical numbers from former and present members, testimonies, the  reading of  the  history of the church, and a challenge from God’s Word.  Pastor and Mrs. Duane Sweet (Marie) were recognized for their faithful twenty-five years at the church,  the longest by far of the seven men who have pastored the church.  Pray that the church will remain true to God’s Word until Jesus comes back for His saints.

Williamstown, NJ

In August, Pastor John Shipley wrote these words to the FFBC– “I am just glad our God is in control, He knows our needs and our aches and pains. I have been grateful that for the last 8 years, I have been able to live a close to normal life  as  a  cancer  patient, and I am sure that God will not leave  me or  forsake  me  at  this point.  I, am, as well as all of you, in the hands of our God at all times.”

On October 22, Pastor Shipley went home to be with the Lord.  Mary Shipley is very grateful for the outpouring of kindness and love from the FFBC family.

As we celebrate Thanksgiving, let’s reflect on these words of truth given from the lips of Pastor  Shipley  and  evidenced in his life.

Please pray for the Pine Island Bible Church family as they continue to seek God’s direction for their next Pastor.

Dear Brethren,

Our Annual Conference was well attended and appreciated by both the clergy and laymen.  During the conference, Chris Jenkins (director of Tri-State Bible Camp) reported that all the rooms were occupied with attendees.  Dick and Holly Stratton interacted extensively with everyone at the conference.  Many remarked about their congenial and friendly spirit.  One of the highlights of the conference was the attendance and comments of veteran missionary Betty Oxley.  Thanks to the program committee and all the workshop leaders.  Our appreciation was extended to Chris, Keith, Faith, and the entire staff for their wonderful hospitality and personal kindness to us.

The results of the FFBC Fifth Annual Essay Contest were announced at Annual.  Over the five years of the contest, 78 essays have been submitted by 40 participants from nine churches.  The results this year for ages 8 – 12: 1st place went to Kara Kincaid (Hardingville) and 2nd place was awarded to Kaylene Schnorr (Pine Island). Emily Check took 1st place and her brother Christopher was the 2nd place winner for ages 13 – 16.  They are both from Faith Fellowship Baptist Church in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey.  Congratulations to these young people and appreciation to all who entered an essay.

Dan and Sandy Boyce wrote recently that they were blessed with visits of several co-laborers in Christ. They enjoyed sweet fellowship at Annual and praise the Lord for 3 new couples, plus a new in-home Bible Study, and the spiritual growth of the church. Pray for the salvation of souls and a 24/7 rented meeting place. May we also remember Frank and Missy Sansone and the Fellowship Baptist Church in Salisbury, Md., as we continue to encourage, pray, and support them under the FFBC Church Development Program.

We received word of the tragic death of ACCC Chaplain (Cpt.) Dale Goetz in Afghanistan on August 30 by a roadside bomb. Pray for his wife, Christy, and sons Landen, Caleb and Joel. Let us praise the Lord with the Archut family. Rich saw his HUP oncologist on August 30th and he was more than pleased with his latest blood test results. He does not have to go back for 6 months.

Mary and I want to express our sincere appreciation to our dear friends, both pastors and laymen, for their earnest prayers, expressions of love, and personal support during Mary’s serious illness. We extend a special word of gratitude to the Tri-State leadership/staff for their generous and thoughtful assistance. All of your prayers, visits, cards, calls, and e-mails were used of God to strengthen our faith, encourage our hearts, and increase our witness. We praise the Lord for His goodness and grace and pray that we may finish well for His glory.

From God’s Word

James, the half brother of Jesus, tells the local assemblies of believers to “draw nigh to God and he will draw nigh to you” (4:8).  While Jesus has promised to never leave us or forsake us, there are times that sin in the church will create a “distance” between that body of believers and God.  It is important for us to be able to recognize “distance” with God and seek to repair that relationship.  Just look at all of James 4 to see how to do this.  When the people of the church are struggling with each other instead of praying, there is “distance.”  When they are praying out of selfishness instead of submission to God, there are big problems.  When the church values the friendship of the world at the expense of fellowship with God, it is in serious trouble.  When the professing Christians in the church strut in pride and arrogance instead of walking humbly before their God, God is not pleased.

The only way to repair a broken relationship with God is by repentance.  We turn from resisting God to resisting the devil.  We exercise godly sorrow over the sins we have committed before a Holy God.  We turn from our pride to biblical humility.  We turn from speaking evil and being judgmental toward each other to edifying one another.  We also recognize that we may not have tomorrow and we strive by faith to be the people God wants us to be today.  Let’s stay close to God!

The FFBC Youth Rally will be held at the Bethel Bible Baptist Church on September 25, 1:00 –  5:00  p.m.    Pray  for  a  great day!

From God’s Word

These     are    great    days    of opportunity.     They  are  also days of greater pressure.   Our country   and   all   of   western civilization are coming apart at the seems – and turning to God in repentance seems a far thought from most people’s minds.  As we face the pressure of serving in these circumstances, remember the guidance given by Peter in 1 Peter 1:13-25.   In this passage, Peter exhorts God’s people to have a hope fixed on Jesus Christ (v. 13).  He is coming again, and He is the only one  Who will never fail us. Secondly, he commands God’s people to be holy in all of our conduct (v.15).   Holiness can only be achieved if we walk in a  spirit  of  dependent obedience with God Who is holy.   All other forms of “holiness” are shallow and ineffective.      Lastly, Peter challenges God’s people to live our lives with the fear of God. People who fear God recognize that we were redeemed by the blood.   People who have been redeemed understand that having a fervent love for one another is holy behavior.

A monthly communication from Dr. Terry Smith,

National Representative of the

May-June 2010

Dear Brethren,

An Avianca Airlines jet crashed in 1983 while attempting to land in Madrid, Spain. Investigators made a gloomy discovery. The black-box cockpit recorder indicated that minutes before impact a shrill voice from the automatic warning system alerted the crew repeatedly, “pull up, pull up.”

The pilot, apparently thought the system was malfunctioning, snapped, “Shut up, Gringo,” and turned it off. Minutes later, the plane crashed into a mountain side. The plane was right, the pilot was wrong: many died.

The next time you are criticized for being too doctrinal and not practical, remember this tragic story. What the pilot believed about the message influenced his actions and led to irreversible consequences. This is true for you and me. What we believe determines our behavior. Let’s reaffirm out loyalty to the absolute, eternal truth of His Word. Tamper with this foundation to our faith, and it is to our own peril. “The Bible stands.”

Let’s reaffirm out loyalty to the absolute, eternal truth of His Word. Tamper with this foundation to our faith, and it is to our own peril. “The Bible stands.”

Dan and Sandy Boyce wrote recently that their new facility is working well. A piano was donated for their services, and son, Dan, is home for the summer to assist and play the piano. Continue to pray for their evangelistic outreaches and edification efforts. All personal and church mail should be directed to: 134 Lennon Road, Corrall, NH 03598; house and church phone (603) 846-5400.

Our Annual Conference is set for August 9-12 at Tri-State with Dr. Richard Stratton, president of C.C.C., as our keynote speaker and his wife, Holly, to share with the women. The Program Committee has made several changes to our conference schedule this year. If any pastor needs financial assistance to attend, please contact President Joe Roof or Secretary Ed Cotton.  Hope to see you on the slopes of the Delaware.

The fifth annual Essay Contest will be held this year. The theme is How Is the Christian Body To Be a Living Sacrifice Unto God (Romans 12:1-2)? The age groups are 8-12 and 13-16. First and second place winners from each group will be awarded gift cards for $50 and $25 respectively. Entries must be no more than one page, written or typed and submitted by July 21st to Chuck Green through mail or email (3greens@clearinter.net). The winners will be announced at Annual Conference.

Looking ahead to fall, the 2010 FFBC Youth Rally will be on September 25th from 1-5 PM at Bethel Bible Baptist Church. Knowing God is the theme. Young people may prepare for the Bible quiz by studying I John 4-5. The event is free; food will be provided. Contact Chuck Green (856-222-1338) or Kevin Kincaid (856-582-1348) for more information.

Brother Al Martin, who had surgery on June 10th, was discharged from the hospital on June 15th. He will be confined to his home for two weeks. Diagnosed with Wegener’s granulomatosis Michele Charles reports that her hearing has improved and her pulmonary function tests recorded “minimal lung changes.” Please continue to uphold these friends in prayer. Also remember to pray for the first DVBS on July 26-30 at the Shadow Ridge Baptist Church, Holly Springs, NC, with Frederic and Mary Mitchell.

From God’s Word
In Genesis 15:1-6, God came to Abram at a time when he was facing the fear of Chedorlaomer’s revenge and
the frustration of understanding how God was going to keep His promised provision of a seed. God told Abram that he did not need to be afraid. The same God who conquered Abram’s fears can conquer ours. God also told Abram that He was his shield. The protection of  God was sufficient for Abram and is sufficient for us. Most importantly, God told Abram that He (God himself) was his (Abram’s) “exceedingly great reward.” God Himself was a greater reward than the land promised to Abram. God Himself was greater that the son who would be born in otherwise impossible  circumstances. Coming to the place where we believe that God Himself is a greater reward than anyone or anything else in our lives and that He alone can calm our fears and be our shield is evidence of faith that is counted for righteousness.  It is the only faith that saves, and it is the only faith by which we can serve God.

In Acts 2:36, Peter preached that the Risen Savior is the Lord! Let me challenge you to remember that the church is God’s church, not yours.  I love the images of Christ’s authority in the church. In Ephesians 1:22-23, He is the Head of the body, His church. In Ephesians 2:19-22 He is the Chief Cornerstone Who is building His Church.  In Ephesians 5, the Lord is pictured as the Husband of the church which is His bride. In other Scriptures, He is pictured as the Bridegroom Who could return at any  moment to receive His bride! With these images in mind, let us make sure He is truly the one leading and directing us to do His work!

Report from the Rep – March – April 2010

Report from the Rep.

A monthly communication from Dr. Terry Smith,

National Representative of the Fellowship of Fundamental Bible Churches.

284 Whig Lane Road, Monroeville, NJ 08343

March – April 2010

Dear Brethren,

Beware of the Emerging Church movement. It is popular with those who are dissatisfied with orthodox doctrine, dogmatic preaching, and traditional worship. The movement thrives on disorganization, values mysticism, distrusts authority, dislikes preaching, promotes intellectual arrogance, and recognizes few (if any) doctrinal or moral boundaries.

This attack on the Scriptures has serious ramification for our ministries and churches.  There is no doctrine certain enough to declare with conviction; all is open to discussion and debate.  The Bible really offers no comfort and hope. No truth can adequately correct aberrant teaching.  There is no clear Gospel message to proclaim to the lost.  May God enable us to understand biblically the subtle work of the enemy in this movement and be prepared to stand without apology as we content for the faith in these dangerous times.

President Joe Roof went to Haiti in February with Operation Renewed Hope. The group held Gospel services, ministered to people, and delivered Bibles, tents, etc. He had the opportunity to fly as a passenger in the plane piloted by Dave Crispell. The Lord richly blessed. Continue to pray for the work of Christ in Haiti.

Praise God that Rich Archut will complete his external radiation treatments at HUP on May 7th. His heavenly Father enabled him to continue to his work at the radio station and his ministry in Woodbury for a few days in March.  Ken Poole had double knee replacement surgery on March 9th. Although the Pooles live in Maine, he had his surgery in the Littleton Hospital, near Dan and Sandy Boyce. Ken’s expected recovery time is about twelve weeks. After two surgeries on his left eye, Bob Biscoe is grateful for slow but continued improvement. We extend our sincere sympathy to Vida Brodie on the home going of her father. Let us faithfully uphold these dear ones in prayer.

Dan and Sandy Boyce expressed their appreciation for the $100 monthly missionary support given to them by the FFBC. Their church, Victory Baptist, has begun to meet in the auditorium of the McIntyre School Apartments in Whitefield, effective April 11th. They are grateful for God’s provision for this larger and visible meeting place.

Our Annual Conference is set for August 9-12 at Tri-State with Dr. Richard Stratton, president of Clearwater Christian College, as our keynote speaker and his wife, Holly, to share with the women. If any pastor needs  financial assistance to attend this year, please contact President Joe or Secretary Ed Cotton.

As we look ahead, the 2010 FFBC Youth Rally will be on September 25th from 1-5 PM at Bethel Bible Baptist Church. More info in my next issue. Questions should be directed to the Bethel Church.

Remember the ministries at Tri-State this spring and summer. Consult the camp brochures and correspondence for detailed information.

Serving Christ together,

Terry R. Smith, National Representative
