35th Anniversary
In the mid 1970′s, Gary Myers was attending the Parkland Baptist Schools in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada and heard preaching of God’s Word and the challenges to plant churches. While in Canada, God also brought Janet McCausland into his life. After school, Gary and Janet were married and sensed the Lord’s direction to plant a church in Meshoppen, PA. The first service of the Biblical Baptist Church was held on Sunday, November 21, 1976, at the Keiserville Community Center.

In the mid 1980′s, while visiting an evangelist friend near Corning, NY, the Myers met and became acquainted with Harold and Sophie Haines. Harold was the National Representative of the Fellowship of Fundamental Bible Churches. The Biblical Baptist Church family had been looking at becoming part of a fellowship, and after Harold preached and presented the FFBC to the church, the BBC family voted unanimously in 1988 to become a part of the Fellowship. That same year the church was approved to come under the church development program which enabled Pastor Myers to leave his secular job and devote to full time ministry. After two years, the church was able to fully support their Pastor.

On November 13, 2011, the BBC will celebrate their 35th anniversary. Dr. Terry Smith will be the guest speaker. Pastor Gary Myers said, “God has demonstrated over and over again His faithfulness to us and me personally for keeping me here as Pastor for the entire 35 years of our church. During that time we have seen many souls saved, baptized, and added to our church. Some have gone on to be with the Lord; others have relocated to other areas; two have entered full time ministry; some have ‘drifted away.’ However, we rejoice that during 35 years over 1200 have entered our doors and have heard the Word of God preached! My wife and I were talking just the other day and our mutual thoughts were: 1) “God is so great;” 2) The years have flown by; and 3) We have “only just begun” serving the Lord. To God be ALL THE GLORY, for truly GREAT THINGS HE HATH DONE!”

70th Anniversary
The Bible Church of Westville is one of the original churches of the FFBC. Their Pastor, George Derr, was one of the Pastors and Delegates who walked out of the 1939 meeting in Atlantic City, NJ because they refused to compromise the truth of the Word. By taking this stand, the church lost its property and had to move on and start fresh. God blessed! Their current Pastor, Pastor Glenn Doughty, has served the Lord at this church since 1970 with Carole’s faithful help and support.

The BCW family will celebrate 70 years of God’s faithfulness at a dinner at the church on November 12. Pastor Anthony Garris, a church planter from Camden, NJ, will be the guest speaker.
Psalm 100:5 says, “For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting, and his truth endureth to all generations.” Praise to God for what He has done, is doing and will do!

Looking Ahead
November 15, 8:00 a.m.
The Atlantic District Pastors will meet at the Berlin Diner. Please R.S.V.P. to Pastor Al Martin. Send prayer requests to Pastor Frank Sansone.

December 2, 6:30 p.m.
The Central District will be holding a Christmas Fellowship at the TSBC Senior Center. The catered meal costs $9.00 per person. Please R.S.V.P. Stephen Racite by November 16.

December 6, 6:00 p.m.
The Atlantic District will be holding a Christmas Dinner at the Archut home. R.S.V.P. Donna Archut (856.863.2236) and get your dish assignment by December 1.

1 The Link is written by Pastor Joe Roof and sent out monthly to the churches, pastors, delegates, and friends of the FFBC. Please send all questions and suggestions to pastor@calvarybaptistministries.com.

A Faithful Servant

“The years was 1945, just a few months after the war in the Pacific ended with the dropping of the atomic bomb on Nagasaki and Hiroshima. After being stationed in Saipan with the Second Marine Division, I marched into the devastated city of Nagasaki with the occupational forces of General MacArthur. It was while stationed in Nagasaki that God spoke to me through the words of Miss Agnes Couch, a dedicated elderly missionary who was a graduate of the Moody Bible Institute in the late 1890s. Miss Couch had just been released from the Japanese internment camp where she had been held during the war. My heart was deeply touched by her humble faith and dedication to God’s call to shed the light of the Gospel in Japan. I had also been emotionally moved by the utter devastation and the pitiful state of the war-racked people of the city. Food was scarce and orphaned children lived under bridges and scrounged for food. Through my contact with Miss Couch, I knew God had spoken to me and I determined one day to return to Japan as a missionary in order to give hope to a people floundering without direction or hope for their future. Following my decision, the first person I wanted to tell was Miss Couch. I ran to her home. I imagined the great joy she would experience with the knowledge that a stalwart young marine was willing to pick up the mantle she would soon lay down. The words tumbled from my lips with enthusiasm. Instead of a loving embrace and words of encouragement, however, I was met with a stern voice, a penetrating set of steely blue eyes, and sharp, yet prophetic words. ‘Don’t come back to Japan out of pity. If you have been moved by these devastating physical circumstances, moved only by pity-don’t come back to Japan! Within a few years all of this rubble will be cleared away and this poverty will be replaced by a new affluence. Unless you look deeper and see as God sees, a people living in spiritual darkness without God and without hope – unless you look deeply into their hearts beyond these temporal circumstances and see the depth of their spiritual poverty and are moved by the Spirit of God to preach the Gospel – never come back to Japan!’ I was devastated and hurt, but the wisdom of her words eventually strengthened my own understanding of missions. They added a deeper dimension to the call of God that would bring me back to this land of the rising sun.” (One Rock at a Time, As Told by Kathleen Oxley Lee, pp.16-17).

We praise God for the faithful testimony and ministry of Dale and Betty Oxley. On September 30, Dale went home to be with the Lord. Our love and prayers are with Betty and all of the family.

May these words challenge us to remain faithful to God’s calling on our lives and on our churches and burden us to make disciples and teach them all things that our Lord commands.

Thank you, Pastor Ernie Brodie Jr. and the Robertsville Bible Church family for hosting the youth rally. We also appreciate all others who led and served in this event as well as those who participated.

Around the FFBC

Whitefield, NH
On Sunday June 26, a good number of believers publicly identified themselves as charter members of the Victory Baptist Church and officially called Pastor Dan Boyce, who led in planting this church, to be their first Pastor. Dr. and Mrs. Terry Smith and Pastor Joe Roof and his family were able to take part in this special day and were deeply touched by the devotion, hospitality, and generosity of this congregation and the Boyce family. God has blessed the early days of this new work in many ways and we look forward to many more blessings as we lift up this precious ministry in our prayers.

Westville, NJ
Brian Archut and a group of young people from the Community Bible Church, Barrington, NJ, conducted the DVBS for the Bible Church of Westville, on June 27-30. Two prayed for salvation. Pastor Doughty reports that this group did a great job presenting the Word of God.

From God’s Word
The church and the Country are being bombarded with false doctrine. The modified Universalist theology of Rob Bell is being read by millions. Instead of believing the Bible truth that a loving God provides redemption for those who believe in Christ, Bell teaches that God will provide redemption for all whether or not they believe. The Gay theology of the liberal churches and liberal politicians denies fundamental truth about the Bible’s teachings on marriage, human sexuality, creation, and a host of other doctrines. It threatens the future existence of American society. They want all the Christians who disagree with them to shut up or face punishment for speaking up. The nutty theology of Harold Camping teaches that a “spiritual” rapture took place on May 21 and that this was the last day anyone could be saved. Family Radio is still teaching that the world will end on October 21. These false teachings are the tip of the iceberg.
“Hold Fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.” (2 Tim. 1:14-15)

The Work Of The FFBC

The FFBC is a fellowship of churches that stand together for the Truth and serve together in the spread of the Gospel. The local church is the “pillar and ground of the truth” (1 Tim. 3:15) and the place from which God’s people carry out the Great Commission.

The FFBC is investing in churches through church planting (Victory Baptist Church, Carroll, NH) and church development (Fellowship Baptist Church, Salisbury, MD). We also own and operate the Tri-State Bible Conference which provides a place where the churches of the FFBC and other Fundamental churches can come and practice evangelism and discipleship. This requires significant investments from time to time.

The FFBC also invests in Missions. Today, fruit is continually produced from the labors of the Oxley family. While Dale and Betty are retired, they continue to receive some needed support from the FFBC. In June, we are sponsoring a Short Term Missionary Apprentice Program (STAMP) trip to Liberia under the leadership of Pastor and Mrs. Gary Myers.

The FFBC also incurs expenses from the ministry related travel needs of our National Representative, Dr. Terry Smith, and our Executive Officers. For several years, the FFBC has also made an effort to help Pastors and their families get to the Annual Session if they can’t afford to come.

All of these investments in Gospel work are made possible because of the generous giving of God’s people. It would be a blessing if every member church in the FFBC could give at least one gift a year to the FFBC and TSBC. It would also be a blessing if churches could actually support the FFBC and TSBC through regular giving.

Jesus lives and all of His redeemed ones have hope! Peter explains this in 1 Peter 1:3. In our culture, “hope” means a possibility that we would really enjoy. In this passage the word “hope” is something that is certain, something that we can absolutely count on. God’s people have salvation and with that salvation future promises and blessings that we can count on at all times for all eternity. The “hope” mentioned in this passage is also described as a “living hope” made possible because Jesus rose from the dead. What this means is that we have a hope that powerfully impacts our lives in the service of the Lord. It results in fruitful living instead of wasted living. How sad it would be to try to navigate this life without the “living hope” that comes from the Risen Savior. My prayer is that many will receive this “living hope” as we preach God’s Word this Easter Season.

Dave Crispell has been busy flying back and forth from Santo Domingo, DR to Haiti carrying relief supplies and preachers of the gospel for Operation Renewed Hope. He has also had several opportunities to preach. When I heard about this, I asked the Pastors and churches of the FFBC to pray for him. At that time, I did not know that I would be going to Haiti. Well, I ended up in Haiti, and I had the joy of flying with Dave! Dave is an awesome pilot and we had a great time of fellowship travelling from Santo Domingo to Cap Hatien. Please continue to keep Dave in your prayers.

Church Planting Progress:

The Truth Bible Church, a Hardingville Bible Church plant led by David Field, recently mailed out 5X7 mailers to the surrounding community. David also preached a series of messages entitled “This We Believe” that walked the flock through the formation of their Statement of Faith. Keep praying for this body of believers as they serve the Lord and trust Him for the increase.

The Boyce Family made a safe move to Littleton, NH and the new Victory Baptist Church held her first service on January 24.

Cassville Property Sold:

I have received word that the sale of the property in Cassville is complete. We appreciate Ed Cotton and his work on our behalf.

From God’s Word

2 Peter 1:19 tells us that we should pay attention to the inspired Word of God as we would a light that shines in a dark place. Our personal times in the Book ought to be a delight, not just a duty. The sermon which rightly divides the Word (2 Tim 2:15) ought to be the believer’s highlight in any church service. The Word of God really should be one of the most exciting things in our lives!

What has happened? Most professing Christians have trouble making time to read the Word of God let alone delight in it. Many find the sermons that rightly divide the Word to be the most boring part of the church services instead of the most important time. Even we pastors can get so caught up in the cares of “ministry” that our times in the Word are dull.

“Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105). May God help us to delight in the light of His Word!

Around the FFBC
Tri-State Sunday

Sunday, January 31 is Tri-State Sunday. This is aspecial day for the churchesand the ministerial membersof the FFBC to make ameaningful connection with thecamp as we begin a new yearof ministry. It our desire tosee every church in the FFBC participate. It is our prayer thatmany blessings will result from Tri-State Sunday.

2011 FFBC Annual Session

Pray for the programcommittee as they begin work on the plans for the FFBC Annual Session which will be held on August 8-11, 2011at Tri-State. It would be a blessing to see a session packed with delegates from every FFBC church and all of our ministerial members. Mark your calendars and start saving your shekels for this special event. Dr. Matt Olsen, President of Northland
FFBC Workshop?

What in the world is going on in Fundamentalism? What changes are acceptable? Which ones are not? How do we, as individual believers, churches, and collectively as a fellowship of churches respond to the things that are going on in a way that glorifies the Lord? How do we handle disagreements over the things that are going on in a way that would please God? It isbecause of these concerns and more that I would like to propose a special FFBC workshop for the Pastors of FFBC churches and all ministerial members where we have a day of briefing, biblical instruction, prayer, and discussion about some of the issues at hand. I would like forPastor Mark Franklin to lead this workshop. Hardingville Bible Church would host this event. If you would be interested in gathering on a Monday or a Tuesday in March for such an event, would you please email me and let me know?

Happy Anniversary VBC!

Victory Baptist Church of Whitefield, NH will be celebrating their one year anniversary with a special service on January 23, 2011. Pastor Gary Myers will be the guest speaker. The Boyces would like to praise God for His faithfulness to this ministry and thank Him for the support they receive from theFFBC, various churches and individuals. Please pray as we will be moving into our own 24/7 rental, seek to charter thisyear, and make application to join the FFBC.

From God’s Word
In Ephesians 5:16, Paul challenged the believers to be “redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” The beginning of 2011 marked the conclusion of one of the most evil decades in human history. Terrorist attacks, wars, famines, natural disasters claiming hundreds of thousands of lives, slavery, sexual perversion, poverty, corruption, persecution of believers, and nations on the verge of financial collapse all serve as indicators of these evil days. While all of this evil is taking place, our personal time clocks are ticking which reminds us of the need to redeem the time. Also, God’s prophetic time clock is ticking. At any moment, the trumpet will sound, and this also reminds us of the need to redeem the time. What are we doing to make sure that we are using our time on earth to bring God glory and serve God’s purposes for His people and His Church?

Report From The Rep.

A periodic communication from Dr. Terry Smith, National Representative of the Fellowship of Fundamental Bible Churches.
284 Whig Lane Road, Monroeville, NJ 08343

October-December 2010

It was Christmastime. Two women, their arms filled with large packages and their coat collars raised against the wintry wind, strolled past a downtown department store. In the big front window was a life-size Nativity, including the Christ Child, Mary and Joseph, shepherds, and cattle. “Can you beat that!” one of the women was overheard to say to the other. She continued, “The churches are even now barging in on Christmas! Hard to imagine why.”

What irony! Unfortunately, some have drifted so far from the original significance of Christmas that the King of kings should be accused of “barging in” on the observance of His birth in Bethlehem. One the other hand, may we FFBC pastors and churches, exalt and proclaim the living Christ during these special days. There is only one other historical event comparable to His advent into the world and that is His death at Calvary, followed by His bodily resurrection.

The Bethel Bible Baptist Church, which broke ground for the initial part of a three-phase improvement and building project on October 3 has experienced steady progress and positive response from their people. Recently, Pastor Ron Whitehead reported they expected this first phase to be completed before the end of the year.

Our delegation to ACCC annual convention held from October 19-21 in York, PA, reported that it featured good preaching, helpful reports, and Christian fellowship. Please pray for the work and witness of the council and for Ralph Colas, the Executive Secretary.

Brother John Shipley, one of our faithful pastors, was called into the Lord’s presence on October 22. We praise God for the Memorial Service held on the 27th at Hardingville Bible Church. It was a celebration of John’s life and ministry and a testimony to his precious Savior. May we continue to pray for his wife, Mary, their children, and the entire family.

The fall work retreat was held at Tri-State Bible Camp on November 5-6. The good number of workers at the retreat was an encouragement to Chris and Keith. Much work was done and several projects we completed. Thanks to all who lovingly and diligently participated with their hearts and hands during the retreat.

The Community Bible Church in Barrington started Wonderful Grace Radio, an Internet Radio Station, in October. They are currently streaming a 6 hour loop 24/7. The programming contains sacred music, Biblical preaching, and several other features. You can find it at www.cbcbarrington.comor www.wonderfulgraceradio.com

Go to Listen Live tab on the site and click the icon. They ask for feedback from you!

Chuck Green and Kevin Kincaid, who annually plan the youth rally, are asking for a host church to volunteer for the 2011 youth rally. It has been suggested to move the rally from late September to the middle of October to allow more time to prepare for the quiz. If you can host the rally or have helpful ideas, please contact Chuck or Kevin.

I count it a privilege to serve with you. Mary and I are looking forward to Christmas and visits from our family. We pray that you too will enjoy Christ-centered fellowship with your loved ones as you celebrate Christmas and welcome the new year.

Serving Christ together,
